Day 136: Kicking it with Kelli!

Ireland, the only place in the world where you can get a certificate for drinking!
-Jameson tour guide

So, Kelli came to visit me here in Dublin this week! She got in Wednesday night, we immediately went to O'Neill for some delicious and extremely hearty pub food (and some cider of course). The rest of the trip revolved primarily around pub visits and dead bodies, I kid you not. I thought it might be my morbidity and fondness for drink, but maybe its just Dublin? Yeah, I think its Dublin.

Our first tourist stop was St. Michan's crypt! This time there were about 15 people down in the crypt with me, and the tour guide was a lot less intimidating. Here you can see Gen and Kelli descending to meet the mummies.

Right next door is the Jameson distillery! Here are the large distilling tanks that they used to use for the triple distillation of Jameson's Irish Whiskey. The "water of life" used to be made here in Dublin, but operations moved to Cork.

Me and Kelli by some used Jameson casks. They're actually imported from the US where Wild Turkey is made!

I was selected (volunteered) to do a whiskey tasting test at the end of the tour. Here I am with my fellow brave tasters, 6 out of 8 were from the states.

Here were my test shots, scotch, Jameson, and Jack Daniels. NOT a fan of scotch, even though I drank all of it! It tastes like drinking peat! I like Jack, but Jameson was definitely the easiest to drink. Jack is only distilled once. After this they brought me a glass of whiskey, it was a little overwhelming, I had to share with Kelli.

Here we are later that night at the Wool Shed, an Australian Sports Baa(get it?) for karaoke night! They had deals on pitchers, so we went that route instead of pints. Kelli and I didn't sing but Genevieve and her friend from home belted out "Stand by Me."

Continuing the theme of dead things, we went to the dead zoo where we saw this beautiful butterfly!

Marveling at some monstrous lobsters!

Kelli with her obligatory pint of Guinness at the "secret bar" which really isn't that much of a secret, I'm pretty sure everyone living in Dublin knows it's there. It was a nice place to relax when everywhere else is crowded.

This is from a couple days ago when Sarah brought over some Macaroni and Cheese. Yes, it was Kraft! As you can see, I was pretty excited.

Me and Violaine at the "soul picnic" last weekend.

The Iveagh Gardens, one of my favorite spots in Dublin.

Kelli's visit was great, I'm so happy we got to catch up! Now I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting for my next round of visitors, only a couple days!! Can you tell I'm excited!?
